At the recommendation of a peer in the industry via one of his Tweets (thanks @RussThornton) I picked up on Feedly. This new extension for Firefox re-thinks how you can view your Google Reader, Flickr, Twitter streams and other sources. It then repackages them in several differing views.
Quite honestly, after just a few uses I was already evaluating modifications I could make to those sources to both sharpen and broaden the scope of content I seek to review on an ongoing basis.
In my view, Feedly gives me several ways to more easily filter through the sources I consider valuable, so it is the usability that is the X factor for me.
As shown above, the initial view (Cover) is much like opening a print magazine or an online news site, compartmentalizing lead stories, but also providing access to link deeper into your feeds. Feedly also offers a Digest and Latest view. The Digest opens up more of your sources and the Latest (excellent element) surfaces the newest updates into your stream.
Via preferences you can integrate Flickr, Twiter and other sources For me Delicious is next). I am going to continue exploring and plan to write more...
